About
Brighter Futures offers support to individuals within SELBY District who are experiencing emotional distress or mental health issues. We are a service that is managed and delivered entirely by people with lived experience of mental ill health.
Having been set up in 2009, we now have a wealth of experience supporting people. We do this by organising and running two peer support groups a week that normally meet in local cafes. They are an opportunity to get out of the house, meet up with other people that are experiencing similar issues to yourself, get support and generally feel part of something - one of the consequence of poor mental health can be a sense of isolation and withdrawal, we can help you overcome this (oh, and a nice cup of tea or coffee in nice surroundings can help too!)
We have also run a range of creative groups where you can get together and get creative and have fun. We organise and run the Selby District Mental Health Forum (www.sdmhf.org.uk), a place where service users can meet to discuss local services and provision as well as developing new ideas for groups and activities.
we now run an online creative group for young people and will establish a weekly youth group going into 2022.
