About

A voluntary group which works with the railway industry to promote and enhance Hunmanby Railway Station.

This has included:

Developing flower beds to improve the station environment.

Producing publicity material that highlights both the improved village train service as well as village events. 

Worked with disabled residents to submit an application to the Department for Transport to improve level access onto the trains through the Access for All Funding scheme

Working with the village school to provide children's artwork which is now displayed in both waiting shelters

Produced a website that both promotes the village and encourages use of the rural rail service

Promoted the village station as a destination to start a walk or take a cycle ride to and from

Worked with the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery to offer special rates for visitors arriving by train

Designed a village Rail Ale Trail, promoting the villages as a destination for good food and real ales

Generous support both financial and in kind has been provided by Northern Railways and local village traders

In December 2020 Friends of Hunmanby Railway Station won the small projects award (under £500) for their role in the launch of a new hourly train service in May 2019 and for finding ways of making the station a community asset.

Last year passenger journeys through Hunmanby increased from 22,704 to 32,458, a rise of 43%.

 

 

    The Friends group have produced a village webpage. This  lists advice, help and support available for residents in Hunmanby and the surrounding villages. It has been kept up to date during the current situation.

    For example

    Shops and traders offering doorstep delivery to those self isolating

    special arrangements to ensure social distancing.

    Support and advice from the local policing team through 'Operation Cracker' a Partnership with Filey Lions, The Alzheimer's Society, The Herbert Protocol, Beyond Housing, Nat West, North Yorkshire Fir & Rescue, Scarborough & District Age UK, Scarborough & Ryedale Carers Resource, Dementia Forward, Futureworks and Westway Open Arms 

    Ways to keep the body and mind active through suggested village walks for regular exercise and links to films archives available for free on line 

    support available from all levels of Local Government including personal messages from our Parish, Borough, County Councillors and Member of Parliament

    The Friends group over the summer distributed trays of  bedding plants they had grown delivering these free to self isolating households in Hunmanby.

    This winter the Friends Group have winter lettuce, and spring flowers that they are over wintering for distribution in the Spring 2021 to self isolating households in Hunmanby please ring Nick on 07895 981483 and they will be delivered to your doorstep
