About

From joining a local club, going to the football, or just going for a stroll in the park- Side by Side uses volunteers to support people with dementia on a one to one basis, to retain hobbies and interests or to take up new ones. The volunteers can support service users to get out and about, encouraging access to everyday places. This extra support can make it easier for people with dementia, who might sometimes feel isolated or find it difficult to leave their homes, to do things we might take for granted. The service is highly flexible and built around the individual and their needs. Side by Side helps to reduce stigma, ensuring people with dementia feel confident and remain connected to their community. Side by Side is not able to replace respite care or a transport service, and we are not able to offer any personal care or mobility support. We want to know the things you enjoy doing so that we can find you a partner who loves those things too. So whether you are a keen singer or a fantastic lace maker, give us a call to see what opportunities there are with Side by Side for you. Volunteer travel expenses are paid and full training and an induction are provided. If you would like to be involved either as a volunteer or as a person living with dementia please contact Fiona Baker on 07826867835 or email fiona.baker@alzheimers.org.uk
