Starbeck Community Library, Harrogate


Starbeck Community Library has been entirely volunteer run since April 1st 2017, though with the support of North Yorkshire County Council. We have very good support from the local community . Our hours are: Monday 2.00 ; 5.00, Tuesday 10.00 ; 5.00, Wednesday 2.00 ; 5.00,Thursday Closed, Friday 2.00 ; 5.00 and Saturday 10 ; 12.00. In addition to our comprehesive book stock we have 5 computers for public use, a scanner, a printer/photocopier and e mailing facilities. We have local newspapers and coffee making machine for those who want just to sit or meet friends. At opening times, there is a cafe which is operated by Bakewell, a centre for adults with learning difficulties. They provide freshly baked cakes and scones and prepare hot drinks for a small charge. If the weather is nice you can take your drinks and a book in our pleasant garden which is maintained by Starbeck in Bloom. We have a meeting room which is used by a variety of groups, from parents and toddlers to the WI and to a Philosophy group. We put on a variety of activities such as Story time on a Monday afternoon and run two book groups. We have a programme of evening talks on the third Thursday of each month which start at 7.00.

The library has parking space for the disabled. There is a ramp for access by wheelchair users and for pushchairs. There is a disabled toilet.
